On behalf of the City of Natchitoches, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our City, established in 1714 as the oldest permanent settlement in the Louisiana Purchase.
The City of Natchitoches is a wonderful place to explore, filled with friendly people, natural beauty and plenty of things to do for the entire family. We are proud the Natchitoches region serves as the home to Cane River National Heritage Area, Cane River Creole National Historical Park and the Natchitoches National Historic Landmark District, one of only three such districts in Louisiana.
National achievements have included being named as one of the United States’ Dozen Distinctive Destinations in 2005 by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as well as a Great American Main Street Community and a Preserve America Presidential Award Winner.
In 2014, the City of Natchitoches will host its Tricentennial Celebration, recognizing 300 years of deep-rooted history in the Natchitoches area. Plans are underway to mark this milestone with a series of celebrations and special events that will attract tourists from around the world.
Enjoy your visit to Natchitoches, and we hope you will make plans to visit us again in 2014. If the City of Natchitoches can be of further assistance to you, please visit our web site at www.natchitochesla.gov or contact City Hall at (318) 352-2772.
Sincerely,
Lee Posey, Mayor
